A1 x J1 – Baby Do You Leave Me

Teen rap-pop sensations A1 x J1 are back with ‘Baby’, the follow up to their smash hit ‘Latest Trends’ which went viral, reaching #2 in the UK charts and achieving 100 million global streams. Their unique pairing of hard-edged rapping (J1) and sincere, boy-next-door singing (A1) captured young hearts nationwide and their second single proves that they’re here to stay on the UK music scene.

Another summery slice of what it’s like to be young guys finding their feet in a post-pandemic world, ‘Baby’ further marks out their distinct rapping/singing tag-team and sensitive relatability. Its delicate piano and minimal beats stand out in a world of tougher sounds like grime and drill, as does its subject matter. “Guys put too much pressure on trying to have romantic relationships,” says J1. “You don’t need to focus on girls.”

‘Baby’ features London’s Afro-wave viral star Deno, who has previously worked with Stormzy and AJ Tracey. He’s an artist whose breakthrough success A1 x J1 can relate to. “Deno’s been in my shoes,” says A1. “He knows what it’s like to build a name around himself at a young age. And now us doing a track with him is just amazing. It just shows that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

Indeed A1 and J1 can. It’s been a whirlwind year for the 16 and 18-year-old, who, in the short time they’ve known each other, have pulled off the impossible: launched a successful music career in the middle of a pandemic, gone viral on TikTok and scored a number two hit with their debut single – all while they were still at school. They met each other on the Houseparty app during the first lockdown of 2020, bonded over a love of football and rap music, and when a snippet of the track ‘Latest Trends’ went viral on TikTok they launched into their career full throttle.

Fast-rising rapper Aitch loved ‘Latest Trends’ so much that he jumped on the remix, as did platinum-selling American artist A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and it rocketed up the singles charts while A1 was still attending classes. It led to a freestyle session on the hugely influential rap channel Plugged In W/Fumez, where all the most important names in UK music perform, and where you can see A1 x J1 effortlessly bounce off each other in the booth.

“It’s been a crazy year,” says A1, who has just finished his GCSEs and is ready to dominate summer 2021. “Life is getting much more fun now,” adds J1. Indeed it is: with lockdown restrictions slowly lifting, A1, who is based in Coventry in the West Midlands, and J1, who has recently relocated to Gravesend in Kent, have been able to get into the studio together and continue honing their distinctive style. ‘Baby’ is a taste of freedom – and what’s next to come. A1 and J1 are only getting started.

“I always loved both versions of this song, the original by the Supremes and the 80’s remake by Kim Wilde. Both were number 1 Billboard hits! I decided to cover it with a female and male vocal, and ended up making an electro-dance duet.” – Martial Simon

Champ & Shuggs are the real life sons of Temporary Hero and the apple does not fall far from the tree it seems. The boys already have a r&b/hip hop hit on Traxsource and Spotify in their first team up with Agency (“Something To Say”) and now they dip into dance floor / pop territory teaming up with The Cautious Arc. Yes, the kids do indeed write and produce, and on this song, with a little help from their father, they shine more than brightly. The original is dance pop heaven and Bad Space Monkey takes the tune to a dance floor filler realm. JOSES offers up disco. Think Dua Lipa has the crown? Move over!

Don Diablo & Ty Dolla $ign – Too Much To Ask

Don Diablo has teamed up with Ty Dolla Sign for brand-new single ‘Too Much To Ask’. Released in collaboration with non-profit organisation Justdiggit and their partner United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for the launch of their #STREAMTOREGREEN initiative, in time for World Environment Day, every stream for Don and Ty’s latest offering will be a crucial step towards combatting climate change.

‘Too Much To Ask’ is a call to action from two of the world’s leading artists, to help raise awareness amongst fans to come together to help protect Mother Earth. When all it takes to help make a difference is to listen to music, Don and Ty pose the question – is that really too much to ask?

Don Diablo and Justdiggit launch their innovative #STREAMTOREGREEN initiative with this first single, which will see him donate the income from streams of ‘Too Much To Ask’ to aid the organisation’s amazing environmental work. A brilliantly simple yet highly impactful concept, with every play bringing a bigger donation that will help towards regreening the planet, Don and Justdiggit demonstrate how music really can help make the world a better place.

On 4th June 2021, Don Diablo spoke at the Virtual Launch Gala welcoming the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Comprising of inspiring messages from world leaders, activists and celebrities including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, and a welcome message from His Holiness Pope Francis, Don introduced the Justdiggit initiative as well as giving the world premiere of ‘Too Much To Ask’.

Having identified that 37% of the world’s climate problem can be resolved by restoring land with the help of nature-based solutions, Justdiggit aim to inspire and educate smallholder farmers with simple techniques that will enable them to regreen their land. The presence of vegetation has been proven to have a cooling effect on the regional and even global climate. For every 25 streams of ‘Too Much To Ask’, the #STREAMTOREGREEN campaign will enable Justdiggit to regreen 1 square metre of land, making vital advances in the fight to tackle climate change.

The United Nations have declared the next decade as ‘The Decade on Ecosystem Restoration’. Scientists around the globe agree on the fact that the next decade is absolutely crucial. In the next ten years we have to make the transition to a sustainable way of living. People need to be aware of the urgency – taking time to debate is a luxury we can’t afford. We need to act now. Justdiggit is an official partner of the decade and together they want to inspire and activate 350 million small hold farmers across Africa to restore their own land in the coming ten years.

Speaking about the initiative Tim Christopherson, UNEP Coordinator of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration said “During the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, it will be World Environment Day every day for the next 10 years. By bringing back nature from the peaks of mountains to the depths of the sea. But it also includes the many small actions everyone can take, every day: growing trees, regreening our cities, rewilding our gardens or cleaning up trash alongside rivers and coasts. Is it too much to ask? By listening to our favorite music, we can get inspired to regreen mother nature with #GenerationRestoration.”

Currently voted the world’s #6 DJ on the prestigious DJ MAG Top 100, the sought-after producer has collaborated with everyone from Diplo, Emeli Sandé, Jessie J, Kelis, Gucci Mane, and Travis Barker with a remix portfolio that includes the likes of DJ Snake & Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson & Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Madonna, The Chainsmokers & Coldplay and many more. Whilst Don’s outstanding contribution to the dance music scene has not gone unrecognized, to focus solely on Don’s – albeit phenomenal – DJ career is to do a disservice to a man who is consistently seeking to revolutionise every aspect of the cultural space he inhibits. Don is the embodiment of the future, and this modern approach is prevalent in everything he does – whether that is through his futuristic aesthetic, or his creative output. An inspiration to many, Don’s unique style has seen him carve a name for himself in fashion, with his self-designed HEXAGON clothing line. A testament to his fashion credentials, in 2018 Don worked together with Disney and LucasFilm to launch an official Star Wars x HEXAGON capsule clothing line. Launched at the internationally renowned, prestigious department store de Bijenkorf, this was a momentous first collaboration for the designer, signalling the beginning of his foray into the fashion realm. Combining both his writing and artistic skills, the revolutionary creator took to the 2019 New York Comic Con to unveil his semi-autobiographical, sci-fi HEXAGON comic book series Hitting the shelves in March 2020, Don went on to announce another ground-breaking partnership with major publishing portal Webtoon for the HEXAGON interactive series in November. Immersing himself in the world of design, the icon has been involved in several art and design projects set to be rolled out throughout 2021 and beyond. With Don’s recent home renovations earning himself a feature in the rebooted international television series – MTV Cribs, Don has exhibited a clear flair for design that will be further reflected in his upcoming ventures. A consummate presenter, Don has hosted his hugely popular Hexagon radio show for over six years. Co-hosted by a robot boy called Hex, the hugely popular show is currently broadcast in over 68 countries to millions of listeners. A mentor to many, Don launched his Hexagon record label back in 2015, giving him the perfect platform to champion new talent.
